MATTHEW MOK
I feel, therefore I write....

As 2009 draws to a close soon, so shall the first decade (2000-2009) of the 21st century. Looking back the past 10 years, there were so many gladness and sadness in my life that I still remember vividly.

Nevertheless, life is good, no matter what...a mantra I have always hold dear till this day.

Here are just some of my top moments during the recent decade in my simpleton life:

1) When I was asked by the then Computimes' editor to co-manage a weekly newspaper column on mobile computing and trends, just some months after I joined New Straits Times. Am thankful for the trust and opportunity; certainly an opportunity most senior journalists would seek for in their careers.

2) The thrill was high, the fear nulled. And when I was aground, the shock overwhelmed. Had my first bungee jump at Phuket, and boy...what a rush!

3) My first actual Broadway musical--The Phantom of the Opera at Singapore--I remember the thrill of the moment when I made a special trip there just to catch the Phantom. And it was worth every cent!

4) Summer in London: A week of carefree days with nothing to do but endless hunting for musicals and plays, and then some:) I miss you, my summer love!

5) When I was embraced lovingly in the rain by the streets of Bangkok. A very dear moment, indeed :)

6) My journalism days..from mags to online media and back to newspaper, I miss the stress and joy of interviewing, writing, editing and driving PR agencies and interviewees mad :) From Tun Mahathir to Bill Gates, I was just too excited!

7) When the feelings were mutual, I remember looking up to the Petronas Twin Towers from the park, riding bikes to fun destinations, driving up to Genting for a quick coffee fix late at night, driving to a nearby sea village that offers nothing but the still of the night, and finally...learning that every fabric, material and cut matters to not just one, but millions of people.

8) When I ponder and gaze afar to the dark black skies by the beach at Club Med Cherating...that was when I fell in love with the gazillion stars shining brightly above and learnt about the Orion Constellation. I miss the stars in bright KL :(

9) When I had Chelsea--my beloved Golden Retriever. I miss you, everyday!

10) Finally, when I met some fantastic friends who remain steadfast till today despite the bullshit I may spew on them sometimes. Thank you for being the mirrors in my life :)

Dare I wish for another decade of greatest moments? Here I go!
